What PVC fencing costs per metre

Every figure below is read live from our current supplier pricing when this page loads, so it cannot drift out of date. Post and rail is the cheapest fence we make because it is mostly air. Full privacy at full height is the dearest because every section is solid.

What you are actually paying for

Fencing is priced in sections, not in panels, and the difference catches people out. A section is the repeating unit of a fence: one panel, one post, one cap. Buy ten panels and you have nothing to hang them on.

The count is set by the shape of your boundary rather than its length alone. A straight twelve metre run needs five panels and six posts. Put a corner in the middle and it is still five panels but now seven posts. Add a gate and you need two more, both carrying more load than a line post does. Working that out by hand is exactly the job the calculator does for you.

Why your quote comes out higher than the per-metre rate

This is the part most fencing sites leave you to discover at the end, so here it is up front. A per-metre figure is the fence. A quote is the job. Four things sit between them.

Concrete

Two bags a post, around $26 a section. On a low fence that is a big share of the total.

Corners and ends

Every corner and every gate needs its own post, over and above one per panel.

Gates

A gate kit, two posts, hinges and a latch. The single biggest jump in most quotes.

Delivery

A gate replaces one line post with two end posts, each carrying a galvanised reinforcement channel inside it to take the swinging load, plus the leaf, hinges and latch. The posts are cut away so the reinforcement is visible. This is why adding a gate moves a quote more than adding several metres of fence.

On a long straight run those extras are a modest percentage. On a short run with two gates they can be a third of the total. It is the reason we would rather you drew the real boundary than trusted a rate card, and the reason the cost guide gives ranges rather than a single number.

Height is the biggest lever on price

Going from 1.8m to 2.4m is not a small upgrade. There is a third more panel in every section and a longer, heavier post under it. It is the one decision worth making before you price anything, because it moves the total more than the style does.

Fence heights against a person of average height. Taller fences cost more per metre because there is more panel in every section, not because the price per square metre changes.

The practical read: 1.2m for a front boundary you want to see over, 1.8m for a standard side or rear fence, and 2.1m or 2.4m only where you genuinely need the extra screening, such as a pool surround or a boundary onto a road. Most Australian councils allow 1.8m on a side or rear boundary and 1.2m at the front without approval, but check yours before you order.

It takes a couple of minutes and there is no phone call and no waiting for someone to come out.
Is the fencing quote accurate or just an estimate?
It is a real itemised price, not a range. Every line comes from the same supplier pricing our invoices use, so the number you see is the number you pay for those materials. The two things that can move it are a boundary that turns out to be a different length once measured on site, and ground conditions that change the footing depth.
What is included in the calculated price?
Panels, posts, caps, concrete for the footings, and any gates and gate hardware you add, plus delivery to your address. Installation is priced separately and is available across South East Queensland. Plenty of customers order supply only and install it themselves, which is realistic with this product in a way it is not with steel.
How much does fencing cost per metre in Australia?
For PVC, materials run from about $21 to $96 per lineal metre including GST depending on the style and height, with post and rail cheapest and full privacy at 2.4m dearest. Those figures are the fence itself. Concrete adds roughly $26 per section, and gates and installation are on top. The live figures for every range are charted on this page.
Why is the calculator total higher than the per-metre figure?
Because a per-metre figure is the fence and a quote is the job. The calculator adds concrete for every post, an extra post at every corner and either side of every gate, the gate kits and hardware themselves, and delivery. On a short run with two gates that overhead is a large share of the total, which is exactly why a per-metre number alone misleads people.
Do I need my property measurements to get a quote?
No. That is the point of drawing on the map. You do not need a tape measure, a title plan or a site visit, because the satellite imagery gives the tool the geometry. If you already know your lengths you can enter them instead.
Is the fence quote free, and do I have to talk to anyone?
Free, and no. You get the itemised price on screen and can leave it there. We are not going to hold the number hostage behind a form and a follow-up call, because the whole reason this tool exists is that getting a fencing price in Australia usually takes a week and three quotes.
Can I compare fence styles and heights in the calculator?
